Bunyan and Camus Streets of The Groves section are completed. Only a few homes were constructed in The Groves section at this time. The remaining lots were not built upon until 1985.
Fruitville road is two lanes, with heavy rush hour traffic. Honore Ave. ends at Fruitville Road. The Sarasota Crossings Shopping Center, and the Target Center have not been built. There is no traffic light at the intersection of Honore and Fruitville.
The interstate opened about 1981. In the top left hand corner note the convenience store, veterinarian office and other stores. These were demolished when Honore was straightened and extended north of Fruitville Road by the New Publix Crossing Shopping center about 1988.
Honore was again widened and the canal north of Fruitville was relocated toward a west when the Target center was constructed about 1994. The driveway for Storer Cable are visible (now Comcast) along Fruitville, and the 7-11 is in the upper right corner by Fruitville Elementary School.
Cedar Hollow (1) and Cedar Hollow 3 have not been started yet.
Some of the orange grove trees are visible on Bunyan and Camus streets. Photo shows Peanut Joes in the original location a little east of the present BP station today. The athletic fields for McIntosh Middle (the first school in the country with cable modems) are visible in the lower right hand corner. |
